Movies which showcase male friendships have always been big hits with the audience. How can we forget the trio in Dil Chahta Hai, portrayed beautifully by Saif Ali Khan, Amir Khan and Akshay Khanna?

The chemistry of those three friends and their adventures and mishaps made us laugh till our stomachs ached. More recently we saw the movie Zindagi na milegi dobara, where there was another trio essayed by Farhan Aktar, Hrithik Roshan and Abhay Deol. What is so special about male friendships?

A woman may be a man’s better half, but his friends form his other self. Whether it is simply hanging out together, playing games, fighting or watching cricket together, male bonding is second to none when it comes to relationship types.

That brings us to the question, do guys open out more to their male friends than to their wives or girlfriends?

Bollywood actress and model Kim Sharma says both are different sort of relationships.
“It might differ from person to person and this applies to both the sexes. There are things which you are more comfortable talking to your friends than to your wives. It depends on the kind of bonding a man has with his wife also.”

Former Mr India and actor Ganesh Venkataraman feels that ultimately it is “definitely an individual thing and depends on what kind of rapport you share with that person”.

“But then, men will be men and they don’t leak out our secrets. Our male friends will go through similar experiences so it will be easier for them to understand. Women are a mystery. But sometimes there can be a female friend or colleague who will be so chilled out that we can share everything with her,” he says.

Actor and model Rohit Roy feels it’s not just men but women also who share more with their female friends than they do with their spouses or boyfriends.

“The reason is you don’t feel judged when you share your deep secrets to your friends. You can’t share everything with your spouse, he or she might get offended. It is more comforting to open up to your friends of the same ??? because they will be able to understand you better,” he goes on to add.
