TOI :I had to woo Shilpa's cats, dog and fish before she accepted my proposal: Raj Kundra

The man got embroiled in a messy betting controversy. Then his friend and brother Sanjay Dutt was imprisoned. But his wife and son provides him with the strength that keeps him going. Excerpts:

What is it like being married to one of India's sexiest woman?
It's a tough job but someone has to do it. (Laughs). The pleasure is all mine.

How did you manage to win her heart?
Now, that's a long story but all I can say was it was love at first sight for us both. We feel we are made for each other. She is my soul mate. I must have done something good in my past life. Winning her heart wasn't too hard. It was the approval from her mum, dad, sister, cats, dog and fish that was harder, before she said yes to me. (laughs)

Tell us about the experience of writing your book How Not to Make Money.
The experience was, well, new I would say. I was always good at English literature, math and business studies at college but writing a full blown book was a different ball game. It wouldn't have been possible without my friend and co-writer Arghya Lahiri. He was always available at all hours and would sit and discuss the storyline and help me put it together.

What plans for your Super Fight League? Has Sunjay Dutt's imprisonment affected your joint venture?
Super fight league is growing strength to strength I have hired a new CEO Mr Daniel Isaac who handle's the day to day affairs. We have over 250 Indian fighters in our pool and soon we will start phase two which will be the launch of The Indian Fight League built on the IPL model. I miss Sanju bhai there is no one I know in Bollywood who has a heart like his. He is not just a partner but also my elder brother. It's a difficult phase he is going through, but once he is out I assure you that you will see Sanjay Dutt Version 2.0!

Things seem to be going wrong for a while. How did you deal with the accusation of IPL match fixing? Sections of the media reported that you did confess to doing it...
The media did not accuse me of match fixing but of gambling. The case was for match fixing and I was called for questioning on the grounds of certain information that the police wanted to clear up. Media loves scandals and a simple thing like my questioning got blown out of proportion. Like I said, certain people misused their power and said things they shouldn't have. Bottom line is, I have done nothing wrong and respect the laws of the land. If I wanted to bet I could as an NRI bet anywhere in the world legally.

What was the one silver lining you saw in all these troubles?
The silver lining was the clean chit that I got. I was very upset at a few powerful people who misused their positions. Anyway, I am happy that I was given a clean chit. Unfortunately, it is being questioned again and a new probe panel is being requested. All I can say is, the facts will remain the same. It's sad when politics gets mixed up with sport.

How do you remember your trips to Kolkata?
Before every IPL, when we play in Kolkata, we pray at Kalighat the night before our matches.
What next?
I have a huge bucket list of things I wish to do before I die so there will always be new things to look out for with me (smiles). God willing. For the moment I am enjoying what's on my plate and family time with my wife and son Viaan Raj Kundra, who is just the best thing that has ever happened to Shilpa and me.
