Peak of Prejudice

Post by sandhya on 2013-11-07, 15:35

Our Jodha seems to justify the terms ‘blinded by prejudice’ perfectly.

Of course the marriage was forced on Jodha. But wasn't her father and family equally responsible? She doesn't give them even a slice of the blame.

Jodha seems to hold  Jalal responsible for everything. Thank God she didn't say that he was the one who CAUSED  the thunderstorm that night!

She can take her sweet time to reconsider her feelings. But didn’t her behaviour need civility esp in Amer ? Wasn't basic courtesy Jalal's due? ..if not as her husband at least as an Emperor? The ‘Kahin bhi jaake mariye; Amer mein nahin’ was the limit.

The Kali mandir episode was enough to cause a ripple on anybody's conscience. But why is Jodha so unaffected and impassive? She is supposed to be a chathur princess, as her masa and dadisa boast. Couldn't she realise at least towards the end of the Amer trip that just like Jalal was unaware of the fort issue(as she herself surprisingly accepted), he MIGHT be unaware of the Kali Mandir loot? Being a princess herself she must know that there are always intermediary wretches who play double games in politics. Then why the "tumhare jijasa cheenna jaante hain" during the wedding?

Even all of Jalal's scruples after the suicide episode doesn't seem to warrant his acceptance of Jodha's  incessant impertinence. She need not like him, but can atleast  be polite as she is to all and sundry... even to the Rajvanshi who came to kill her on the Ajmer trip.

And on top of it she declares her current(last 2 episode) geniality as a big consideration and thanks giving on her part. She wasn’t so thankful on the fort issue. She didn’t have the sensitivity to feel the sentiments attatched to the fort, of the person who has just saved her sister’s wedding.  Nothing deserves more censure than a thankless heart.

Where is all the inner strength, poise, grace and wisdom needed to transform ‘a haivaan to insaan’? In fact it is Jalal who seems to transform this bhaagin nowadays.  Jodha’s  recent charecterisation is too much for me to savour. Where is the  clear-minded and firm Jodha who put out Jalal’s anger so neatly and firmly on the wedding night or the bold courageous Jodha who gave him a deserved dressing down after the dhature ka ark episode?  Did the jump into the pool befuddle her brains and numb her propriety as well?  CVs, please redeem her character from this  insensitive, close-minded, prejudiced spitfire that she is portrayed to be of late.

P.S: Going by the spoilers, nothing can blotch the delicacy and decency of both the characters  like this possible fake pregnancy, however well handled. This time perhaps the CVs plan to plummet Jalal's character down to put him at par with his begum(as they don't seem to be in a mood to lift her character).

You have hit the nail on the head, Sandhya ... Jodha's portrayal has been very inconsistent , She is unable to make the needed impact  and her efforts all come out as petty , there is no nobility behind her reasoning.

The New team have to rework on Jodha pretty fast n bring her on par with Jalal and not vice versa .

The old team had the blend right for both the J's but as of now, it is skewed even Maham has lost her potency.

Hello Sandhya .. nice to read your views .. I agree with you here .. the Creative team I guess wish to project that ...Jodha  is prejudiced against Jalal due to  Kali Mandir loot episode and that has left such an imprint on her mind that nothing Jalal does will ever be able to erase that out of her memory ...
but this difficult to accept .... even in fictional story it is difficult to ignore all the goodness Jalal has shown towards Jodha .... I guess this falling for Jalal which has begun last two episodes with get another push back due to the fake pregnancy fiasco .. and am expecting she will be back to ghrina mode for breaking his promise !!!

Thanks Sumana,
By the Kali Mandir episode I meant Jalal's magnanimous gesture, seeing his God in all Gods which should have touched Jodha or anyone for that matter.

Sandhay I absolutely agree with your views...Jodha is coming out as a common woman instead of a royal princess.,..how could she taunt Jalal about sympathising with him for being a emperor doesnt she know the disadvantages she herself being a princess....

And about telling sharif about her knowing his chaal ..hasnt she learnt kutilvidya being a princess..where is th ediplomacy...The Cvs are spoiling her character instead of a strong willed and intelligent woman she is coming out as stupid and arrogant lady.

Loved reading u Sandhya..
Jodha is the main lead and such mistakes will take away the joy of watching the show which is one of the few good ones now
