Nice Article On EBP.

Aaj ke Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon ke Episode ke baare mein nahi likha toh Kya Kiya???
OK…What was that??? Seriously what was that???
Boy meets Girl, they have a huge argument…their ego clashes….. can’t see eye to eye….one fine morning the Guy takes a 360 Degree turn starts being nice, starts to care….Girl in dilemma over the sudden change….Guy starts to shows signs of love and even before the viewers can blink the girl has fallen for the guy, the duo are married and do I even continue?????
There used to be a time when it was the Saas or the wicked Bahu, Mami, Chachi etc etc who used to be high on revenge….Looks like with changing time the Revenge concept too has changed because today the Star Players in the Game of Revenge almost always happens to be the Male and Female Protagonist. What’s even more striking is the use of LOVE & MARRIAGE as an instrument to achieve the desired Victory.
Everybody has heard the Phrase “Dressed to Kill ” but yesterday when Astha was getting ready for her Suhag Raat all I could think was “Dressing to be Killed”… Well isn’t that how it looked??? Though she was getting ready for her Suhaag Raat with all sorts of anticipations the one thought that would have never crossed her mind is that the night that was supposed to mark the beginning of her new journey as Shlok’s wife was soon going to take a detour.

With Shlok standing up for Astha and her parents every single time insults were hurled at them by Anjali, Astha believed that she could never find a better life partner other than Shlok Agnihotri because what more would a Girl want than her husband showering unconditional love on her and also respected her and her parents and would you blame her for believing that way….after all Shlok did put up his best act forward.
Though tonight’s episode showcased the full blown intensity of Shlok’s hatred for Astha especially when he removed the “Loving-Caring Mask” he had put on since the day he decided to get back at her for all she did (Insulting, Back Answering etc etc) one particular scene in yesterday’s episode even if simple, that already gave away how frustrated Shlok was, the range of his Hatred, the desperation with which he waited to play his final card aka Revealing his true self. Wondering which scene?” 3 mahine, 20 din, 6 ghante aur 51 min” that is the line, the scene that displayed the intensity of his anger, his hatred towards Astha. He has been keeping account of every single moment that was spent thinking, hatching, plotting, manipulating and acting to get back at this WOMAN who in his eyes made it practically impossible for him to sleep peacefully. That is the fierceness and passion with which he hates her…..and today was just a display of that HATE.

How big a sadist can one be ? Till the very last moment, till that moment Shlok thought would be ideal for his revelation he pursued his act…He teased Astha, stirred up more love and anticipation within her…took her to the peak so that when he pushed her from there the Impact would be so huge that it would leave her completely shattered. Shlok showed his true self, she showed her that it was all a SHAM…. That everything he ever said, he ever did was nothing but his way of getting back at her…of showing Astha who had the Ultimate Power and to an extent he succeeded….Yes!!! I would say “To an Extent” because we still haven’t seen Astha’s reaction completely. Didn’t follow?? Read On!!!

Astha’s reaction comprised of shock, pain, denial and anger…..The moment Shlok pulled off the chain and broke the locket she was shocked, well anybody in her place would be taken aback at the sudden change but then came his seething anger and since that anger was bolted inside him for a long time now, it was impossible for Astha to see through him. To even understand what the reason was behind his sudden change in demeanor…..well Astha did not have to try, since Shlok sees this is as his Victory, he gloated it all the way and showed her what she truly meant to him, what all those dreams meant and what their marriage stood for. When Shlok screamed like a Maniac that he was going to rip off all the Dreams from her eyes, destroyed the suhaag raat arrangements one could see how maddened he was by Hatred and Anger. The only thing that kept the scene sane was the sad, soft BG music which depicted Astha’s confusion, her pain.
It was good to see Astha fight back through her tears…well not exactly fight back but she wasn’t ready to let him get away…not without knowing what was going on in his head and even when he kept repeating that it was all a “FAREB” she wasn’t ready to accept it – Denial Perhaps. She kept on asserting that he was joking…that he wasn’t the Shlok that she loved, who used to take care of her smallest needs and wishes all again a sign of being in denial when the Man was screaming on top of his lungs that she means nothing to him. Even when the tears were streaming down her cheeks, even when she was enduring all that pain with him grabbing her by the arms, or shoving her on to the bed she refused to give up.

” Kisi ka Ghulam nahi hoon main, Jo uski Isharon pe Nachoon” So is that what bothers Shlok? Superiority over others, power over others especially Woman…is that what matter to him? Even his other lines today especially “Ab Se tumhara koi pehchaan nahi hai, aur Jiske pehchaan ke sath tum sabke saamne rahogi woh kabhi tumhe koi pehchaan dega hi nahi…YOU ARE NOTHING!!!!” is a testimony of him wanting her to not have any Identity of her own. So psychologically and technically it hints towards the fact that he was threatened by Astha right? He was threatened by her talks, her ways, her thoughts and views and the way he reacted around her (In the beginning ) which would mean that he had this need to establish his power over her. He had to switch on a defense mechanism of sorts, so that he could take pride in himself and the fake image he carries. Sochne waali baat hai.
Astha’s confession towards the end that her Mom was right, that she should have listened to her Mom gets bonus points….Initially Astha was only attracted to Shlok, there wasn’t love, the way he came to her rescue, the way he fought for her made her feel special…even when he announced before all that he was going to marry Astha she never was in love with him….and it was in that state that she agreed to marry him and went against her Mom’s better judgements stating that she was in love with him…..Astha truly started falling him post that incident and if you go back to the episodes you can clearly see the difference.

Coming to the performance three cheers to Avinash Sachdev, Shernu Parikh for such an amazing portrayal of Shlok and Astha respectively and to the director Waseem Sabir who extracted the best from his actors. Shlok’s anger, his madness the way he switched from being serious and angry to smiling over her pain and his victory…Avinash Nailed it completely. It was easy to Hate him throughout the eisode and it also reminded me of a Conversation I had with Mr. Waseem Sabir (Director) and how he mentioned that Shlok was an antagonist hero which meant that he is designed to Hate. Shernu showcased her best work till date in tonight’s episode…There was no way the audience couldn’t have connected with her plight and agony. Kudos!!!!
“Yeh pyaar, Yeh shaadi , Meri feelings….Kya Yeh Sab kuch Mazak tha aapke liye…Ki mere Zindagi ka Tamasha bana rahe hai aap” Having said all that I wouldn’t mince my words regarding the amount the violence in tonight’s episode. It wasn’t one bit eye-pleasing….It never was and it never will be. Yes this is a drama, its a daily soap…its reel but all said and done can’t we break this pattern? Can’t Indian Shows do without such Violence, such manipulations? Why make the audience accustomed to the same vine in a new bottle? Until and unless the audiences are shown something new how will we ever know?
With a hope that Astha will find a light in this darkness, that she would use her true love for Shlok as her strength and not her weakness, would put up an equally good game in a honest (Unlike Shlok ) and smart way (Yeah enough with the slaps and tears) I await expectantly for the arrival of a new Dawn.
