Female audiences love bad guys: Karanvir Bohra

Post by candy on 2014-04-21, 08:17

Karanvir Bohra who's wowed fans with his soapy offerings and reality show stints is all set to step into the fresh season of the ongoing soap Qubool Hai. Excerpts from a chat:

You haven't done a daily soap after 2012.

For quite some time, I was busy working for my home production and did a Punjabi movie followed by participating in reality shows. In fact, I had been approached to play the male lead in Madhubala Ek Ishq Ek Junoon two months ago, but things didn't work out. So after Khatron Ke Khiladi Darr Ka Blockbuster it is Qubool Hai for me. I am playing the role of Aahil in QH. To clear the air, I am not replacing anyone, am simply stepping into play a fresh character post a leap. Aahil is snobbish, unpredictable, volatile, rebel biker with a dry sense of humor. It's going to be a fun role.

Why are you keeping yourself restricted to dark roles?

I love dark roles and female audiences love to watch stubborn and tough guys on small screen just the way Amitabh Bachchan in 70s was or currently Salman Khan in Bollywood. The angry, young men are much adored and popular as compared to chocolate boys on small screen. Although, I'd say I have always kept experimenting with the characters I play and have rediscovered the intensity of the roles. I feel my character in my last show was that of a villain, still it was accepted by fans. Although, I took it up as it had a socially relevant message..

You seem to be a big fan of Salman Khan.

Yes. He's brooding, has an attitude and at the same time is warm and so loving to those who matter. There's so much to learn from him.

Tell us about your better half Teejay Sidhu...

She is an amazing and talented person. We share an awesome friendship and understanding. I never have to pretend to be someone else when I'm with her. I am like an open book to her and I know she is always there for me.

We have never seen you taking a break from work.

I have never felt the need to take a break. I don't mind working for a TV soap 22 days in a month for 10-12 hours — that's something so normal for every actor. I love my work, it is a passion for me, that's why I never get bored. It is important to keep trying new things and experimenting, risks are much needed to shine as an actor.

So what is the next thing on your mind?

I want to re-vamp our home production banner in Gujarat. I am looking forward to producing a Gujarati movie. My family has contributed to Gujarati film industry in its foundation years. And, I guess if you give a quality product to viewers even in regional language, it will be accepted.

What makes you say this so confidently?

I can say because my movie Luv U Soniye was accepted widely in Punjab. Infact, many from B-Town asked me why didn't I make it in Hindi instead of Punjabi. Similarly, if I will bring an interesting movie in Gujarati, people will surely appreciate. I have made an effort to understand how the Gujarati movie industry functions and I'm sure I will be able to make a positive contribution.
